The transportation sector in the northeast is an aging infrastructure system. Roadways and bridges often are found to have been in place well beyond the intended design life, requiring rehabilitation measures or reconstruction. Global warming will result in more severe weather events, leading to erosion along streams and river, destabilizing slopes and road embankments. The ever changing airport market requires upgrades to both runways and taxiways as well as terminal and parking improvements to better serve the traveling public. The expanding high speed rail network will require improvements to rail lines and rail terminal buildings.
